Welcome to this week’s Rachel’s Social Snippets #45 – The one where YouTube turned 20 😱 and Instagram kindly brings out a CapCut replacement just in case TikTok gets banned 🤣🤣
YouTube® – 20 Ways YouTube Is Celebrating Two Decades
Pop the confetti, because YouTube has turned 20! From the 19-second clip that started it all, to now over 20 billion uploaded videos including music, Shorts, podcasts and more. They’ve grown so much in just two decades.
Instagram® – Launches Video Editing App
Edits is Instagram’s answer to CapCut, the video editing platform published by TikTok owner ByteDance, with Instagram helpfully offering a replacement for CapCut in case TikTok actually does end up getting banned in the U.S.
Instagram® – Experiments With Collaborative Stories Feature
After adding its engagement-focused Blend option for Reels sharing last week, Instagram is also working on another way to encourage more interaction, this time within Stories.
Threads® – Is Prompting Users to Cross-Post to Instagram
Meta’s looking to get more people cross-posting, this time via a new prompt on Threads, which suggests that users share their Threads posts to IG Stories as well.
Meta® – Adds New Elements To Meta Verified
Meta is hoping to capture more brands’ attention with Meta Verified. So, you’ll find new elements such as advanced original content protection and in-feed engagement recommendations that appear at the top of the search results included in your subscription.
Facebook® – Announces New Measures to Combat Spam Posts And Comments
Though AI has become a bigger part of this process, which Meta is actively encouraging people to use, that’s not a focus of this new junk content crackdown. Which seems like an oversight, but then again, encouraging AI use on one hand, and restricting it on the other, may not work for Facebook’s longer-term goals.
Bluesky® – Adds Verification Checkmarks
This also includes enabling trusted verifiers. For example, the New York Times has a verified checkmark and can hand out other blue checkmarks to its journalists directly in the app.
General Tip – Why Building An Email List Is So Important
I ran a workshop last week and 3 of the attendees came from my email list. They’d all been on my list for many, many years and only now decided to book a workshop. The point here is that I have kept in touch with them all since the day they signed up. Click here to read why ‘the fortune is in the follow up’ and your email list is how you follow up.
Video: How To Plan Your Video So Editing Doesn’t Take Ages Later
Editing video can be a massive time drain. What starts off as a “quick promo video” can turn into hours of staring at clips, trying to make something usable out of the chaos. But a bit of planning before you hit record can save you a serious amount of stress in the edit. Here’s how
