What Is A 3rd+ LinkedIn Connection?
I was asked this question on my 4 Week Online LinkedIn Masterclass this week and I honestly couldn’t answer it as I’ve never noticed it before (sometimes I do think I walk around with my eyes closed! 😱) I just see 3rd degree and have never noticed the + so I must just group them all together in my head whether they have a + or not. That prompted me to do some investigating to see exactly what it meant…
Simply put:
When you see “3rd+” the “+” just means that this person is beyond your 3rd degree network. They’re outside your immediate extended network, but LinkedIn still wants to show them to you because they fit your search filters or algorithmic relevance (e.g., location, industry, shared interests).
3rd = you can often message them via InMail or invite directly
3rd+ = you might not be able to message or connect without knowing their email or using a paid feature (like Sales Navigator InMail)
So now we all know.
Every day is still a school day 🥰 Rx
