Meta™ – Removes Option To Exclude Ad Placements

The company will use an automated system to target display options, and brands will no longer be able to decide which apps receive promotions.

Meta™ – Adds AI-powered Assistant For SMB Owners

A new tool allows small businesses to integrate analytics from multiple sources in order to optimise platform strategies.

Instagram™ – Stresses The Importance Of Captions

The platform offered guidance on what makes text compelling and said creators should aim to tell a story or offer useful information.

TikTok™ – Pays $400 Million To End Child Privacy Suit As U.S. Ownership Shift Reshapes Its Future

TikTok and ByteDance agreed to a $400 million settlement with the Justice Department over COPPA violations involving children under 13. The deal follows a major U.S. ownership restructuring that averted a national ban. It ranks among the largest child-privacy recoveries to date.

YouTube™ – An Update On How We Count Public Views

Last year, we updated how we count public views for Shorts to better capture how viewers watch on YouTube. Now, we’re aligning all other video formats to this same standard for consistency across the platform.

Did You Know… AI Images Can Contain Invisible Watermarks? 😱

Some AI-generated images contain invisible watermarks or digital information that can identify them as AI-generated, even though there’s nothing visible on the image itself.  Does that mean you shouldn’t use AI to help create your social media graphics?

Not at all.  I sometimes use AI when I know what I want to say, but can’t think how to represent it visually.  I’ll ask it to create an image or give me some ideas and, if I like the concept, I’ll recreate my own version in Canva using my own, or a client’s, branding and elements.

There’s a difference between using AI for inspiration and simply publishing an AI-generated image. And if you do use the AI image itself, don’t assume that removing a visible AI logo means you’ve removed all traces of how it was created!

My tip:

Think of AI as your creative assistant. It doesn’t always have to create the finished product.

Why Most Businesses Still Aren’t Using YouTube (And Why That’s a Problem)

Are you actually using YouTube for your business or is it just sitting there doing nothing?

In this video, I break down the results of a recent poll that revealed something surprising: most business owners either don’t have a YouTube channel or they’re not using it properly.  We talk about why that matters, especially when YouTube is owned by Google and plays such a big role in visibility, trust and marketing.

I also cover the three biggest sticking points that stop people creating video content: What to make, How to make it, Where to put it once it’s done.

Would You Be Interested In A One-Day LinkedIn Workshop 😱

I’ve run one-day workshops on all sorts of social media/business topices since I set up my business back in 2013, although not as frequently these days.   That said, I’m considering running a small, practical, in-person LinkedIn workshop later this year, covering everything from getting your profile right through to visibility, content, connections and generating opportunities.

I haven’t decided on a date or location yet, I’m simply gauging interest at this stage. If it’s something you’d potentially be interested in, email me here and let me know where you’re based.

No commitment whatsoever, it will just help me see whether there’s enough interest and importantly, where everyone is based!
